Carter Verhaeghe's overtime goal lifts Panthers to series victory
The Florida Panthers pulled off a stunning 4-3 overtime victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of their second-round playoff series on Sunday night. The win sends the Panthers to the Eastern Conference Final, where they will face the New York Rangers.
The Bruins had a 3-1 lead in the series heading into Game 7, but the Panthers rallied to win the final three games. Brandon Montour scored with just 1:03 remaining in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. Verhaeghe then won it for the Panthers just over four minutes into the extra period.
The Bruins had the best record in the NHL during the regular season, but they were unable to close out the series against the Panthers. It is the first time in Bruins franchise history that they have lost a series after holding a 3-1 lead.
The Panthers, meanwhile, are now one win away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1996. They will face the Rangers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday night.
