Co-Founder of Nobel-Winning Human Rights Organization to Speak at Prestigious Event

Nobel Peace Prize Co-Laureate to Share Insights on War in Ukraine, Human Rights

Elena Zhemkova, Executive Director of Memorial International and co-founder of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Russian human rights organization, will deliver the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize Address on Thursday, November 3.

Dr. Zhemkova has been a tireless advocate for human rights in Russia for over three decades, working to document the crimes of the Soviet era and to expose ongoing human rights violations. Her work has been instrumental in holding the Russian government accountable for its actions and in promoting justice for victims of political repression.

"Dr. Zhemkova is a courageous and inspiring leader who has dedicated her life to fighting for human rights and exposing the truth about the Soviet era and beyond," said Nobel Committee Chair Berit Reiss-Andersen. "We are honored to have her share her insights and experiences with us at this year's Nobel Peace Prize ceremony."

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Memorial International and the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties for their work to document war crimes, human rights abuses, and the abuse of power. In her address, Dr. Zhemkova is expected to speak about the ongoing war in Ukraine, the importance of human rights, and the responsibility of those who could have stopped the war but did not.
