Traffic Fines in the Netherlands
Pay Traffic Fines Online or in Person
If you receive a traffic fine in the Netherlands, you can pay it online or in person. To pay online, you will need the fine's reference number and the date of issue. You can find this information on the bottom of the fine.
To pay in person, you can go to any post office or city hall. You will need to bring the fine with you.
Contest a Traffic Fine
If you believe that you have been unfairly fined, you can contest the fine. To do this, you will need to send a letter to the Central Judicial Collection Agency(CJIB) within six weeks of receiving the fine.
Include the following a letter to contest the fine
The CJIB will then review your case and make a decision. If the CJIB upholds the fine, you will have to pay it.
Unpaid Traffic Fines
If you do not pay your traffic fine, the CJIB may take enforcement action. This may include:
- Seizing your property
- garnishing your wages
- suspending your driver's license
If you are unable to pay your traffic fine, you can contact the CJIB to discuss payment arrangements. The CJIB may be able to grant you a payment extension or reduce the fine amount.
